Most private and public maternity hospitals in the UAE provide more than hospitals in some other countries — basic newborn essentials like initial diapers, swaddles, and a hospital-issue outfit for the first day or two are often included. That doesn't mean you can pack light, though; it means you can be more selective about what you bring.

For yourself, comfort items outrank practical items for a hospital stay. A few nursing-friendly nightgowns or pajamas, your own toiletries rather than hospital-issue ones, and a going-home outfit that accounts for the fact that you won't be back to your pre-pregnancy size immediately are the essentials most people forget to plan for.

For the baby, bring one going-home outfit appropriate for the season — remember that hospitals and the car will be heavily air-conditioned regardless of the outside heat, so a light layer matters even in summer. A rear-facing infant car seat is not optional; most UAE hospitals and maternity staff will expect to see one installed before you're able to leave with your baby by car, and it's worth having it properly fitted in advance rather than figuring it out in the parking lot.

Paperwork is worth double-checking ahead of time, since it's specific to the UAE: your Emirates ID, insurance details, and marriage certificate (a common requirement here for newborn registration and birth certificate processing) should all be easily accessible, not buried at the bottom of a bag packed in a hurry.

Lastly, pack a phone charger with a longer cable than you think you'll need, and something for visitors' downtime — hospital stays here often run one to three days longer than some parents expect, particularly after a cesarean delivery.
